Do you take health insurance?
We seek to provide compassionate, economical care to patients, and we find that insurance tends to interfere with that doctor-patient relationship; therefore, we do not accept insurance. If you wish to submit information to your insurance to seek reimbursement, we are happy to provide you with documentation.
How is DPC better than traditional fee-for-service?
- You can establish care within a week, rather than within months.
- You can see your doctor within 36 hours, rather than choosing between waiting months or seeing a doctor you don’t know.
- We offer extended visits to ensure that your voice is heard and create a treatment plan that aligns with your values.
- We charge under $7 for a strep swab and amoxicillin course, instead of charging hundreds for an urgent care visit.
How many OMT sessions will I need?
Each body has a different set of conditions that are treated with an individualized approach. Chronic problems tend to take more visits than acute issues. Our goal is to restore well ness in as few visits as possible; many times just one visit is needed! If you need more visits, we would have a detailed discussion with a provider concerning your health and financial goals. We do not typically put patients on treatment plans for dozens of visits, rather allowing patients to decide what is working with their needs.
Will OMT hurt?
OMT is typically not painful, though some techniques may be uncomfortable. We work with a range of patients, some who require very light touch, and some who prefer more aggressive techniques for longstanding issues. Our goal is to restore your body to normal function.
Do you treat kids?
Yes! We love pediatric patients. As family medicine physicians, we are trained to see a full spectrum of ages.
How long has DPC been around?
According to Time, Dr. Garrison Bliss launched an affordable primary-care practice, called Seattle Medical Associates, in 1997 – often credited as the first direct primary care clinic.
Are other doctors using a DPC model?
Yes, and increasingly so! According to DPC Frontier, there are 2,390 DPC practices across the USA. According to the AAFP, about 9% of their family physician members are running DPC practices.
What about if I need to go to the hospital?
We do not have affiliations with any hospital at this time, and we recommend that you carry some type of catastrophic insurance or health share plan to cover for emergencies.
How is OMT different that chiropractic?
According to Palmer College of Chiropractic, chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on the spine and other joints of the body. While OMT can include treatment of the spine and can include HVLA (“popping” joints), our approach at JCOMT tends to focus on gentle techniques across the entire body.
How is OMT different than massage?
According to Harper College, massage therapy consists of a group of manual techniques that include applying fixed or moving pressure, holding, and/or causing movement to parts of the body. While OMT can include sustained or rhythmic pressure applied to muscles, our approach at JCOMT tends to focus on correcting specific restrictions in order to restore function.
